In September of 2011, we found out that getting pregnant was going to be difficult after having some tests run on both of us. We met with a fertility doctor in December 2011 and went through IVF in July 2012 (pretty swift in the infertility world). We received the best news of our lives on July 27, 2012- we were pregnant! We had reason to be concerned that the procedure may not work, as we were only able to produce two embryos (little did we know, that was all we would need). The doctors graded one embryo "great" and one "fair." It was obvious that we needed to use the "great" embryo, but the question was what should we do with the "fair" one. After speaking with the doctors, they agreed that the fair embryo would most likely not survive the thaw if frozen to use at a later date. Well, that made our decision easy- we went into this process to create life and we would do anything in our power to give those little embyros the best chance we could. We decided to put in both embryos.
A couple of weeks later at our first ultrasound, we saw that both embryos had "stuck!" To go from not knowing if we could ever have biological kids, to becoming pregnant with twins felt like we hit the fertility jackpot! I remember our fertility doctor telling me, "carrying twins is work- be prepared to be on bed rest come Christmas!" We looked at each other with a smirk knowing that he was overreacting a lot. Little did we know...
As soon as we found out that we would be going on this fertility journey, we made a pact to share our story and be a resource for others who will travel a similar path. While we may not post every nitty gritty detail of our journey on this blog, we are more than willing to share those details with anyone who would like to know.
